Images from life and film pass very quickly, but we often attach our minds to certain frames. These “stills” can sometimes endlessly repeat in our own dreams, memories and created fictions. This work is an attempt of preserving those images that linger in my head—a way of slowing them down. My use of repetition and layering is a literal way to show how moments can echo themselves.
I’ve enjoyed watching these series from James’ Flickr stream the past few months. Especially dig the palette, use of repetition and impeccable taste in cinema. The series flows nicely with his other work. Take a look below.

I’ve been looking at this work by Emile Hyperion Dubuisson for a few weeks now and it continues to grow on me. I was discussing it with Joni Karanka, and he made a comment that seemed very fitting
“The lack of text is brilliant. That series would have been ruined by an artist’s statement.”
There are a few shots in the series that make me grin every time. The mixture of depressing Siberian winter and light hearted emotion from the subjects are a bit jolting, which is why I think I like this work so much. It’s not the kind of work that might blow you away on first viewing, but after you go back a few times, the nuance, mood and ambiguity hook you in.

We had three editors this month. Collectively they edited the submissions as they came in, then each made an edit. They didn’t collaborate on these edits and have not seen each others versions until now. In the tradition of Roshomon, we present you the following three perspectives on the August show, ‘Kill all your darlings.’
