“I raised my head. The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds, and the tranquil waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed somber under an overcast sky–seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness.” – Joseph Conrad

Zine: Tell mum everything is ok: Issue #2 – Outsiders 1

Posted by Bryan Formhals on January 27, 2010

It’s good for marketing to include photographers with blogs in your zine.  A photograph of mine (well, a family photo I scanned) was included in this issue, so they sent me a copy, and I was impressed.  Very nicely designed with good photographs and a nice sequencing.  There were plenty of photographers that have been featured on LPV including: Raoul Gatepin, Pierre Wayser, Lina Scheynius, Luis Torres, Keith Davis Young, Marlon Kowalski and Sylvain-Emmanuel Prieur.

Now that I’ve seen this copy, I’ll probably order the next issue.  Nice work guys.

From the Inbox – Lorena Endara

Lorena Endara was born and raised in Panama City, Panama. She became interested in photography at the age of twelve and has been practicing ever since. She attended Sarah Lawrence College and earned a B.A. in liberal arts. Lorena’s passion for photography is directly linked to her love for travel and commitment to social justice.

I like it when people email me because it’s typically work off my radar.  I haven’t come across much work from Central and South America but that’s probably because I’m not looking hard enough.  Lorena’s ‘A man a plan a canal panama’ project looks promising.

Featured: Kate Kirkwood 2

I am  a photographer working from a farm base in the Lake District in England.

This is the first in what will hopefully be several featured essays from individual photographers.  I’ve been following Kate’s work for awhile now and have always been impressed with how she takes the street photographers approach and applies it to a rural setting.  Instead of humans moving through the city, you have animals moving through the countryside.  And through her work, we see that Kate is at home in both settings.
